AI and your data
Joshua421 uses AI on purpose and in specific places. This page says where, what leaves your device when it happens, and what AI is never allowed to do. For what is stored and how to get it deleted, read the privacy policy.
The short version
- The quiz is not AI
- Your character match is calculated in your browser from your answers. No AI model is involved and your answers are not sent to one.
- Saving is not sharing
- Writing something down does not send it to AI. An assistant sees only what you write to it, and reads your journal only if you allow it.
- AI proposes, you decide
- The companion can suggest a change. You see the exact wording and edit, decline or save it yourself.
- Your words stay yours
- Text the companion writes is labelled as the companion’s and is never mixed into your own writing.
Where AI is used today
In the invite-only app, on the phone and on the web, the reflection companion is a Claude model from Anthropic. When you reflect, what you type and the journal entry or context you selected for that request are sent to Anthropic’s API to be answered. This is the one place your reflections leave your control, and it is the part doing the listening. Anthropic processes this traffic under its commercial terms and does not train models on it. Joshua421 keeps a record that a request started and finished, for the request limit, and no copy of its words.
Invited members can also connect Claude or ChatGPT to their account. You write there. The assistant shows you the exact entry, task or goal in the chat. Joshua421 tells it to save only after you say yes. You can edit or undo anything it saved in Joshua421.
One exception is yours to allow. When you read or think through the Bible, pray, journal or ask faith questions in the chat, the assistant ticks that practice. Each tick shows a chat mark and can be undone.
Nothing else on this website sends anything to an AI model. The character quiz, the character readings, the wardrobe, the invite request form and the Daybook preview run without one.
What is sent, and what is not
- Sent when you reflect
- The words you write in that request, and only the journal entry, tasks, check-ins or calendar occurrences you selected for it.
- Not sent
- Your email, your calendar, your other journal entries, your account settings and anything you did not select. There is no stored transcript to send.
- Typed into Claude or ChatGPT
- What you write inside Claude or ChatGPT goes to that provider under its own terms and the age rules of your account with it. Joshua421 sends it nowhere else and keeps only what you said yes to saving. A practice tick you allowed keeps only a short reference, such as John 3.
- Read by a connected assistant
- Nothing, by default. You can allow a chosen range of up to seven dates, or, as a separate choice, today and the previous seven days on an ongoing basis. Saving an entry never grants reading.
- Never read at all
- Your inbox. Joshua421 has no permission to read email and does not ask for one.
- Not used for training
- Nothing you save in Joshua421 is used to train an AI model, and none of it is sold or shared for advertising. What you type inside another assistant is covered by that provider’s policy and your settings there.
How AI is being built into the app
These commitments cover the invite-only iPhone and web app and its connection to assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. They are how the app is built, not a claim that every part is already running for every member.
- Invited, not automatic
- Keeping a journal never requires AI. Reading what you wrote and writing anything back are separate permissions you grant separately.
- Your yes before each save
- The assistant shows the task, practice, goal or entry it would save and waits for your yes. That rule lives in the instructions Joshua421 gives the assistant, so you can edit or undo every save in the app. Practice ticks from the chat are the one exception, and only if you allow them.
- Memory you can inspect
- What the companion remembers about you is meant to be viewable, traceable to where it came from, correctable, and able to be forgotten.
- Identity is not AI-writable
- Your character and the look you chose stay yours. AI cannot change who your companion is, in the app or inside another assistant.
What AI is not for here
The companion is a tool for thinking, not an authority. It does not speak for God, it is not a pastor, a counsellor or a crisis service, and it can be confidently wrong. Weigh what it says against Scripture, the people who know you and your own judgement, and treat disagreeing with it as normal use.
If you are in danger or in crisis, contact local emergency services. In Australia, Lifeline is 13 11 14 and Kids Helpline is 1800 55 1800.
Choosing not to use it
You can use the quiz and the Daybook without connecting any assistant. Disconnecting Claude or ChatGPT under Connected apps in the app, or at Connected AI on the web, stops new access immediately. Withdrawing Google permissions from your Google account’s permissions page stops the connected beta immediately. Deleting your account removes the hosted records described in the privacy policy. Questions and requests go to ken@joshua421.app.
